I wouldn't use PayPal. After all this button will only alow you multiple subscription options from a single dropdown, as many different price pints as you want and charge you a different amont for a trial - but like you say, PayPal is old hat and cheesey
So this particular button (that you don't want) will:
Allow you to choose one of 3 subs options
Charge you £5 per month for the first two months
Charge you £x depending on the option you choose for the three months after that
Which gives you a flexible 5 month subscription. Clearly you could build this with your merchant account and a credit card button so good luck :)
PS. If you ask nicely the button can say Join Our Gang and can be in whizzypop styling too.... but like you say, why use PayPal
