Oh wow - watch your mum, dad, nanny and grandad get all misty-eyed as you pull this tin kaleidoscope out! I'll give them a maximum of ten minutes until they start begging you to have a go and drift off down memory lane, remembering their days in short trousers when toys needed imagination, not batteries, to work. Yes, in many ways, they really were the good old days, when you got things like these kaleidoscopes to play with.
If you've ever laid back on a grassy hill watching the clouds drift by and making pictures out of them (and if you haven't, go and do it right now, even if it is raining - it's an integral part of growing up!), you'll find yourself being strangely soothed and mesmerised by the constantly-changing psychedelic colours blending and merging into each other. And I bet you never knew the word kaleidoscope comes from the Ancient Greek for "observer of beautiful forms" (at least if you believe everything wikipedia tells you!).
These should be given out by the NHS - when you've had a stressful day at work, five minutes playing with a tin kaleidoscope and you can instantly feel your blood pressure dropping!
